‘Largest House majority’ in decades, says election expert
Stefan Grobe speaks to Boyd Wagner, an elections expert on the surprise result of the US midterm elections.
The Democratic Party blew away expectations overnight, with historic results in long-time Republican states such as Kansas and Texas electing their first Democratic senators for the first time in decades. He explains that we are looking at the “largest [Democratic] house majority in nearly two decades,” and looking at “55, maybe 56 seats” in the Senate for the Democrats in the upcoming term.
He added that this election was to be a “dogfight”, where Republicans “thought they could continue to keep control,” but instead shows a massive swing to the Democrats across most of the country. He also comments on the razor-thin margins for some states, with Mississippi counting a 29-vote lead in the Senate election.
The US yesterday voted in their mid-term elections, re-electing the entire lower house and a third of upper house Senate seats, in addition to several state governors.
