The American Football League Europe (AFLE) today confirmed that the Warsaw Eagles, one of Poland’s most successful American football clubs, will join the league as its ninth franchise ahead of the 2027 season.
The announcement was made live on stage at the AFLE Honors, held Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the Business Club of the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, where the Warsaw Eagles were also presented with the AFLE Honors’ Prospect Team award.
With the addition of the Warsaw Eagles, the AFLE strengthens its footprint in Poland alongside the Wroclaw Panthers and continues its structured expansion into some of Europe’s most established football markets as the league prepares for its second season. The club will compete in the AFLE under its established Warsaw Eagles name and existing branding, carrying its identity and history straight onto a new stage.
A Storied Club with a Winning Pedigree
Founded in 1999, the Warsaw Eagles are Poland’s oldest American football organization and, in 2004, co-founded the Polish American Football Association, the sport’s national governing body. Playing out of Warsaw under longtime Owner Paul Kuśmierz, the club has won the Polish Bowl six times – in 2006, 2008, 2018, 2024, 2025 and 2026 – including three consecutive titles. Today, the Eagles field senior, junior and development squads, making them one of the largest and most established football programs in Poland.
The Warsaw Eagles’ championship pedigree, established infrastructure and deep talent pipeline made the club a natural fit for the AFLE’s next phase of growth. The addition brings the league to currently nine franchises for 2027 and reinforces the AFLE’s commitment to building competitive, sustainably run clubs across key European markets.
Expanding the League’s Footprint
„The Warsaw Eagles are exactly the kind of team we set out to bring into this league – proven winners with a passionate fan base and a real American football tradition,“ said Andreas Nommensen, Commissioner of the AFLE. „A threepeat as Polish Bowl champions says everything about what this club is capable of, and the next logical step for them is to prove themselves at the European level. Their championship pedigree and the passion of their fans are exactly what we want at the top of this league and adding them takes another important step toward the AFLE we envisioned when we built it. Naming them our Prospect Team tonight was an easy call, and we can’t wait to see them out on the field.“
Paul Kuśmierz, Owner of the Warsaw Eagles, said: “Today marks a defining milestone in the history of the Warsaw Eagles. It is an extraordinary honor to officially announce that our organization will be joining the American Football League Europe (AFLE).”
He added, “When this franchise was built, our goal was simple: to compete at the highest possible level and represent Polish football on the international stage with pride, passion, and uncompromising excellence. Entering the AFLE is the culmination of years of relentless hard work from our players, coaches, staff, and partners. More than anything, it is a tribute to our incredible fans, whose unwavering dedication has carried us to this moment. The AFLE represents the premiere standard of American football in Europe. To take the field alongside the continent’s top organizations is both a privilege and a thrill. We welcome this challenge with open arms and clear purpose. We are not just entering a new league – we are bringing the spirit, toughness, and pride of Warsaw to a whole new stage.
